Corby Glen Sheep Fair
October 4th 2020
10:00am - 4:00pm
You are a part of Corby Sheep Fair, which is believed to be the oldest Sheep Fair in the country (dating back to a Charter granted by Henry III on 26th February 1238). The Charter stated:
"Grant to Hamo Pecche and his heirs of a weekly market on Thursday at his Manor of Coreby and of a yearly fair there on the Vigil, the Feast and the Morrow of the Feast of the Assumption. "
In 1863, George Bird wrote of “the largest shew of sheep, beasts and horses that has ever been seen on the ground before.” In 1876, there were 12,000 sheep at the Fair.
Corby Fair is, and always has been, more than the sale of livestock. Traditionally there was a pleasure fair with traditional booths, sideshows, gingerbread stalls, shooting galleries and boxing booths.
We in the Committee hope you enjoy your day and being a part of this ancient tradition.

Important Sheep Fair Coronavirus Update
During these un-precedented times I thought it might be useful to give you an update on the situation with Sheep Fair 2020.
We normally start Sheep Fair planning in early March, but under the circumstances to date we have not been able to meet and have done very little in preparation.
Whilst we will always follow Government / Medical advice we would hope to bring some form of event to the village on 4th October, although this may well be a scaled down version.
We will hopefully be able to start and get things moving soon, again if allowed.
The sheep sales for 14th September and 5th October have already been advertised in the Farmers Weekly and we hope they can go ahead as planned, again subject to advice at the time.
If the situation does not seem to be relaxing or hopefully not, we get a second spike, we may find ourselves in a position when everything may have to be cancelled. If this is the case then that call will have to be made in late July / early August at the latest.
Hope this helps
