**CORBY GLEN SHEEP FAIR 2021**

After this difficult time for everyone, we aim to put on a great show with something for everyone. Key dates are:

First sheep auction in the field off Tanners Lane is Monday 6th September and the second is Monday 4th October. - straight after Sheepfair Sunday. - all are welcome to come and see these historic auctions.

This year we also want to celebrate and hopefully bring to a close what has been a really difficult time for all during the pandemic.  A fantastic live band the Groove Agents will be playing from 8pm on Saturday 2nd October in the market place to kick the weekend off. An outside bar will be open from 7pm to help fund this great event and provide drinks at competitive prices! Please support us by buying your drinks from here! Gelston lamb will be there to selling lambagetddons and more.

Then of course its Sheepfair itself on Sunday 3rd October with all the usual great entertainment and more. The fair will be in town, music, dancing and entertainment on the stage in the market square and of course loads of stalls and craft shows.

The sheep show will also be here and is a great crowd puller so don’t miss it!

We also have a village “Sheep - Crow” competition with prizes so start building your best Sheep to go outside your door!

So many things to see, do and get involved  - the sporting challenge  - vintage cars  - and vintage bicycle this year!, great food and drink offerings amid so much more.

Sheepfair is run by the community, for the community - Please do show your support by turning up and having a great time! Raffle tickets and programs will be out soon.

If you would like a stall, sponsor the event or further information on how you can get involved  - reach out to us or through our website and social media.

Look forward to seeing you there!

You are a part of Corby Sheep Fair, which is believed to be the oldest Sheep Fair in the country (dating back to a Charter granted by Henry III on 26th February 1238). The Charter stated:

"Grant to Hamo Pecche and his heirs of a weekly market on Thursday at his Manor of Coreby and of a yearly fair there on the Vigil, the Feast and the Morrow of the Feast of the Assumption. "

In 1863, George Bird wrote of “the largest shew of sheep, beasts and horses that has ever been seen on the ground before.”  In 1876, there were 12,000 sheep at the Fair.

Corby Fair is, and always has been, more than the sale of livestock. Traditionally there was a pleasure fair with traditional booths, sideshows, gingerbread stalls, shooting galleries and boxing booths.

We in the Committee hope you enjoy your day and being a part of this ancient tradition.
